Dubai, which is already a hub for the cryptocurrency and Web 3.0 communities, has done this industry a great service.<\/p>\n

On 9 March, the city passed its very first new law designed to regulate the operations of cryptocurrencies and virtual assets (NFTs). A tweet from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), confirmed this.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, we have approved the Virtual Assets Law and established the Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority. This is a step that cements the United Arab Emirates\u201d position in this sector. The Authority will cooperate with all relevant bodies to ensure maximum transparency and security for investors\u201d,

As part of the new regulations, the United Arab Emirates has established a Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (VARA), which will be responsible for regulating these assets.<\/p>\n

The VARA is an independent authority operating under the Dubai World Trade Centre Authority, which will oversee the regulation, governance and licensing of cryptocurrencies and NFTs.<\/p>\n

The VARA\u2019s main responsibilities are as follows: regulating the issuance of new virtual assets, supervising and monitoring the trading of virtual assets, ensuring high standards of personal data protection, monitoring transactions, etc.<\/p>\n

The transfer of virtual assets, exchange services, management services and the operation of virtual asset platforms also fall within the remit of the VARA.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the new regulations prohibit anyone from engaging in activities relating to cryptocurrencies without authorisation from the Dubai VARA. Furthermore, those wishing to deal in virtual assets will be required to be physically present in Dubai. Many local artists have begun to explore the possibilities offered by NFTs for creating, selling and buying unique digital artworks.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, many art galleries and art events in Dubai, such as the Art Dubai Festival, have begun to incorporate NFTs into their exhibitions and sales.<\/p>\n

More recently, the Middle East\u2019s first regulated NFT marketplace was launched in Dubai. It enables investors and collectors to buy, sell and trade NFTs in a secure and regulated environment.<\/p>\n

This initiative reflects Dubai\u2019s vision of becoming a global leader in the digital economy.<\/p>\n

Dubai has also seen the emergence of property projects utilising NFTs. For example, some property developers have begun to explore the use of NFTs to represent ownership of, or investment in, property.<\/p>\n
