Dubai continues to innovate in the field of public transport by launching a new on-demand bus service, designed to make it easier to get around certain key areas of the emirate. This service, set up by the’Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), aims to improve access to public transport and tackle the ‘last kilometre’ challenge.

An innovative concept for more convenient journeys

The on-demand bus service is a flexible transport solution that allows users to book a minibus via a mobile app. Unlike traditional buses, which follow fixed routes, these buses tailor their routes to passengers’ requests, making journeys quicker and more efficient.

Users must download the app MVMANT, which enables them to:

  • Book a bus for the time of your choice.
  • Receive the exact location of the pick-up point.
  • Track your route in real time and get an estimated journey time.

Targeted areas for maximum impact

The service has been rolled out in key areas of Dubai, including:

  • Al Barsha 1
  • Dubai Internet City
  • International City
  • The Greens
  • Dubai Silicon Oasis

These areas were chosen because of their high footfall and their need for flexible transport solutions, particularly for commuters and residents looking for an alternative to conventional buses and taxis.

A solution to improve the transport network

The Dubai’s public transport network is already well developed, with the underground, trams, buses and taxis. However, some areas are not fully covered by these modes of transport. The on-demand bus service therefore to fill these gaps, by making it easier to get around in neighbourhoods where metro or bus stops are sometimes a long way away.

Please note that this service is designed for journeys within the zone. For example, if a passenger books a bus from Al Barsha 1, its final destination must be in the same area. This approach helps to optimise the speed and efficiency of the service.

A commitment to sustainable mobility

This project is part of Dubai’s drive to modernise its transport infrastructure and reduce road congestion. By offering a practical alternative to travelling by private car, this service also helps to reduce CO₂ emissions and to promote a more sustainable mode of transport.

Furthermore, this initiative is another step towards the smart city that Dubai aspires to become. Through the use of data and artificial intelligence, the city is optimising its infrastructure and improving the quality of life for its residents and visitors.

Conclusion

With the launch of the on-demand bus service, Dubai is once again demonstrating its commitment to providing modern, flexible and efficient transport solutions. This service, which complements the many existing transport options, offers users a convenient alternative for their daily journeys.

By making it easier to access public transport and reducing reliance on private vehicles, this initiative enhances the city’s appeal and contributes to its development as a smart and sustainable city. It remains to be seen whether this model will be rolled out to other neighbourhoods in the near future!
