As part of its ongoing strategy to modernise its infrastructure, Dubai has opened a new strategic road in Al Warqa, offering motorists considerable time savings. This new route, which connects directly Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road in Al Warqa, now makes it possible to cover this distance in just 3.5 minutes, compared with 20 minutes earlier.
A major transformation in local connectivity
Before the opening, drivers had to travel 5.7 kilometres to connect the two points. Thanks to this new, optimised route, the distance is reduced to Just 1.5 kilometres, thereby helping to ease traffic congestion whilst streamlining the daily journeys of residents and workers.
This dramatic reduction in journey time represents a tangible step forward in improving the urban mobility in Dubai, particularly in growing neighbourhoods such as Al Warqa and the surrounding area.
Increased capacity to cope with rising traffic volumes
Designed to cope with the ongoing growth in road traffic in the emirate, this new road offers a capacity of 5,000 vehicles per hour. This widening ensures a smooth flow of traffic, even at peak times, and helps to reduce traffic congestion which previously affected this area.
The new infrastructure has also been designed to incorporate intelligent traffic management technologies, enabling it to’optimise the management of traffic flows in real time.
A project at the heart of Dubai’s sustainable mobility strategy
This project forms part of Dubai’s long-term vision to develop a a smart, sustainable and high-performance transport network. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), which is in charge of the project, is continuing here with its objectives of continuously improving urban transport and reduction in the carbon footprint associated with longer journey times.
By optimising routes and reducing the distances travelled, this new route not only helps to save time and fuel, but also to improve air quality and reduce CO₂ emissions, in line with the city’s environmental commitments.
A tangible improvement in residents’ quality of life
Beyond the technical aspects, this project has a direct and positive impact on the the daily lives of thousands of residents of Al Warqa and the surrounding neighbourhoods. Journeys to schools, shopping centres, employment areas and healthcare facilities are becoming quicker and more pleasant, thereby improving residents’ quality of life and productivity.
This new road also facilitates emergency response and logistics services, enhancing the overall efficiency of Dubai’s urban infrastructure.
Conclusion
With the opening of this new road in Al Warqa, Dubai reaffirms its commitment to anticipating and supporting urban growth through practical, innovative and sustainable solutions. By drastically reducing journey times and improving traffic flow, the emirate continues to consolidate its position as a global benchmark for smart urban mobility.
