An initiative to encourage safe driving

To mark the start of the new school year, the 25 August 2025, the Dubai Police resumes the operation “Accident-Free Day”, a citizens’ initiative aimed at promoting the road safety. On that day, all motorists are invited to register online to commit to drive carefully for 24 hours. The result is a tangible benefit: the removal of four black spots on the driving licence for everyone who honours the commitment.

A simpler licence for responsible driving

Black points, the penalty system in force in the Emirates, can result in the driving licence suspension if the permitted limit is exceeded. The Accident-Free Day initiative therefore offers a a rare opportunity to reduce their points total, simply by displaying exemplary behaviour at the wheel. Points will be awarded before 15 September 2025, once it has been verified that the conditions have been met.

A symbolic and educational initiative

As well as providing an incentive, this day aims to to raise drivers’ awareness of the importance of road safety, particularly at the start of the new school term, when traffic increases and it is essential to be vigilant. By linking good behaviour and reward, the authorities wish to introduce a a culture of responsibility and to remind people that every little bit helps to reduce road accidents.

An initiative open to all residents

Anyone with a driving licence registered in Dubai can take part. All you need to do is fill in a online form via the Dubai Police portal, and then to stick to the commitment to drive carefully on 25 August. No accidents or offences must be recorded during the day in order to qualify for the discount. It’s a simple gesture that can have a immediate impact on your driving record, whilst helping to collective security effort.

A smart incentive for citizens

The “Accident-Free Day” campaign is a perfect example of the the proactive approach of the Dubai authorities, combining prevention, education and rewards. By offering drivers the chance to clear demerit points from their driving licences, whilst improving road safety, the emirate is introducing a a smart strategy that benefits everyone. On 25 August, caution becomes a collective responsibility, but also an individual opportunity.
