Dubai International Airport sets a new record with 92.3 million passengers in 2024

Dubai has reaffirmed its status as a global air transport hub with a new record of 92.3 million passengers passengers handled at Dubai International Airport (DXB) in 2024. This exceptional performance far exceeds the previous record set in 2018, when the airport recorded 89.1 million passengers. This growth is testament to the emirate’s continued appeal, both for tourism and business, thereby consolidating its central role in international air traffic.

Impressive growth in air traffic

The increase in passenger numbers represents a rise of 6 % compared with 2023, when the airport had already recorded 86.9 million passengers. This momentum reflects a particularly strong post-pandemic recovery, as well as strategic expansion by Dubai-based airlines, notably Emirates and flydubai. DXB’s exceptional connectivity with the world’s major cities also contributes to this performance, making the airport a preferred choice for international stopovers.

India remains DXB’s most important market, with more than 12 million passengers in 2024, closely followed by Saudi Arabia with 7.6 million and the United Kingdom, along with 6.2 million. These figures demonstrate Dubai’s key role as a hub linking Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

World-class infrastructure for a seamless experience

The airport’s success depends largely on the quality of its infrastructure and the efficiency of its management. DXB serves more than 272 destinations in 107 countries, with 106 airlines operating scheduled flights. This exceptional connectivity is underpinned by state-of-the-art services that ensure passengers enjoy a seamless and comfortable experience.

The airport continues to innovate with advanced technologies to streamline the passenger experience. The integration of automated check-in kiosks, facial recognition and intelligent baggage handling significantly reduces waiting times and improves the efficiency of passenger flows. These improvements help to ensure that Dubai remains amongst the world’s leading airports in terms of customer satisfaction.

The future of air travel in Dubai: ambitious projects

In response to this continued growth, Dubai has already launched ambitious projects to prepare for the increase in air traffic in the coming years. One of the major developments concerns Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), which is expected to to become the emirate’s leading aviation hub by 2032. A massive expansion of 35 billion dollars Work is currently under way to increase its capacity to 150 million passengers a year, which is almost double DXB’s current capacity.

This project forms part of a long-term strategy aimed at strengthening Dubai’s position as a global leader in air transport. Al Maktoum Airport will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, new runways capable of handling large aircraft, and a terminal designed to offer passengers an even smoother and more immersive travel experience.

Conclusion

The year 2024 marks another historic milestone for Dubai International Airport, which continues to raise the bar for the global aviation industry. With 92.3 million passengers, with enhanced connectivity and ambitious projects underway, Dubai is establishing itself more than ever as the hub of international air travel. As development of the new Al Maktoum Airport continues, the emirate is well on its way to breaking new records and shaping the future of air travel on a global scale.
