Shopping malls transformed into sports fields
For the whole month of August, Dubai is transforming its shopping malls into walking and jogging trails. Seven emblematic establishments, including the Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Deira and Mirdif City Centre, are taking part in the Dubai Mallathon initiative. Every morning from 7 to 10 a.m., these temples of shopping open their doors to fitness enthusiasts, allowing them to exercise free of charge, sheltered from the extreme summer heat.
An initiative supported by Sheikh Hamdan and the Social Agenda 33
The Dubai Mallathon is part ofSocial Agenda 33, a strategy promoted by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, to improve quality of life in the emirate. The campaign places well-being,physical activity and social cohesion at the heart of its priorities. The idea is to transform everyday places into spaces accessible to all, encouraging a more active and connected lifestyle, even during the hottest periods of the year.
A safe, healthy, family-friendly environment
More than just a jog, the Dubai Mallathon offers a complete and inclusive program:
- Marked stretching zones for warm-up or cool-down
- Health stands staffed by professionals to provide information on diet, posture and sleep.
- Family spaces for children to participate in their own way
Everything has been designed to create a safe and friendly sporting experience, in an air-conditioned, supervised setting, easily accessible by transport. It's also an opportunity for residents to get away from routine, enjoy a light physical activity and meet other members of the local community.
An intelligent response to climatic constraints
With temperatures that can exceed 45°C in summer, practicing sports outdoors becomes difficult, if not dangerous. In this way, Dubai is demonstrating its creativity and adaptability, reusing its existing infrastructure to offer sustainable and accessible solutions to its residents. This type of initiative could serve as a model for other Gulf cities facing similar climatic challenges in the future.
Conclusion: sport, well-being and community at the heart of summer
The Dubai Mallathon perfectly embodies the vision of a Dubai focused on well-being, health and social inclusion. By making shopping malls accessible to everyday athletes, the emirate demonstrates that it is possible to reconcile modernity, extreme climate and quality of life. A further step towards an active, united and resilient society.
