A revolution in the daily lives of residents

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA ) has taken another major step in the digitalization of services in Dubai. Already a must-have for public transport, the Nol card is now becoming a truly universal digital wallet, usable in many areas of daily life.

Thanks to a series of new strategic partnerships- notably with Parkin, the KHDA (private education authority) and PayPal - the Nol card extends far beyond the metro, bus or streetcar. It can now be used to pay for parking, meals, shopping and even education.

This development is in line with Dubai's vision of becoming a 100% digital city, where technology facilitates every aspect of urban life.

From mobility to universal payment

Initially launched for public transport, the Nol card was designed as a simple, fast and secure payment solution. In just a few years, it has become an essential tool for millions of residents and tourists alike.

Today, the RTA is transforming this card into a means of payment integrated into the urban ecosystem. Thanks to NFC technology and extensive commercial agreements, the Nol can be used in shopping malls, restaurants, petrol stations, schools, parking lots, vending machines and even online platforms.

With PayPal, users will soon be able to link their Nol account to international services and make seamless cross-border payments. This partnership positions Dubai at the forefront of financial interoperability between local solutions and global platforms.

Concrete, practical uses

The new features of the Nol card are designed to simplify residents' daily lives:

  • Intelligent parking: direct payment in Parkin-managed parking lots, without third-party applications or paper tickets.
  • Shopping and dining: Nol can be used in thousands of partner shops, cafés and restaurants across the city.
  • Education: payment of school fees, registration fees and fees for extracurricular activities at KHDA-affiliated schools.
  • Digital services: gradual integration into government kiosks and applications, making it easier to pay for public services.

This unified approach allows each resident to centralize their payments on a single support, while benefiting from full traceability and exclusive profile discounts.

A special card for students: "Study in Dubai - Nol ISIC".

Alongside these innovations, RTA and KHDA have announced the launch of the "Study in Dubai - Nol ISIC" card, a version specially designed for students.

This card combines several functions in a single medium:

  • Official student card recognized by Dubai universities and schools.
  • Reduced-rate bus, metro and streetcar passes.
  • Payment card for everyday purchases.
  • Lifestyle discount card with ISIC (International Student Identity Card) integration, offering discounts on leisure, restaurants and cultural services.

With this program, Dubai reinforces its attractiveness as an international academic destination, while supporting student life through concrete technological solutions.

A key step towards the Smart City

The modernization of the Nol card is part of Dubai's digital transformation strategy, driven by the Dubai Digital Strategy 2030 plan. This vision aims to make the city fully connected and cashless, where every service - from transportation to education - is integrated into a single digital infrastructure.

According to the RTA, over 5 million Nol cards are currently in circulation. The aim now is to make it a universal urban payment tool, like a genuine financial and mobility ID for every resident.

This integration also enhances the security and transparency of transactions, while reducing the use of cash, in line with the UAE's sustainable and technological commitments.

Conclusion: one step closer to the city of the future

With this major evolution, the Nol card goes beyond its initial role as a transport ticket to become a central means of payment in everyday life in Dubai. It embodies the emirate's philosophy of simplifying, digitizing and connecting.

Between its new universal payment functions, its strategic partnerships and the creation of the "Study in Dubai - Nol ISIC" card, the RTA is transforming a practical tool into a pillar of the Smart City.

Eventually, the Nol could become the single access key to the city - enabling not only travel, but also payment, study, entertainment and interaction with the urban ecosystem of an increasingly intelligent, inclusive and connected Dubai.
