What is Expo 2020?

Expo 2020 is an international event. The first World Expo took place in the 19th century. The aim was to promote the host country commercially and culturally through its technological and industrial innovations.

The host country will be able to showcase its expertise in cutting-edge technology. To date, 18 countries have already hosted this well-established event, which has taken place more than 69 times since its inception.

Dubai is hosting the 2020 edition of this event. For the first time since its inception, Expo 2020 will take place in a country in the United Arab Emirates.

The history of the World Fair.

The Great Exhibition was first held in 1851 in London, at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, which was built especially for the event.

At that time, the British were technologically ahead of the rest. This inaugural event saw 25 countries represented, 13,800 exhibitors and 6 million visitors, under the theme of ’Industry of All Nations«.

The last World Expo took place in Milan in 2015, with the theme «Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life», attracting 22.2 million visitors and featuring 137 participating countries.

The World’s Fairs continue to grow in scale, with more and more countries taking part, and have become an unmissable international event.

Expo 2020 in Dubai

Dubai has been confirmed as the host city for the’Expo 2020, on 26 and 27 November 2013. This decision was taken at the 153rd session of the Bureau International des Expositions. Three other countries were in the running to host the Expo: São Paulo (Brazil), Izmir (Turkey) and Yekaterinburg (Russia).

Originally scheduled to run from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021, the theme was «Connecting Minds, Building the Future».

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, various organisations, such as the Bureau International des Expositions, have decided to postpone the event, which will now take place from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022.

For the first time since the World Expo was launched, a Middle Eastern country is hosting the event.

The Exhibition is taking place in the Al Wasl district, at Al Wasl Plaza.

The plans for Al Wasl Plaza were approved in 2007, and it is currently the world’s largest 360° dome.

This World Expo will serve as a showcase for the country’s technological, industrial and artistic achievements. Over a period of more than 182 days, more than 190 countries will be represented – more nations than have ever been represented at previous editions.
