Dubai is modernising Umm Suqeim Street: 70 % of the project has already been completed

Dubai is actively pursuing the modernisation of its transport infrastructure, with work progressing rapidly on Umm Suqeim Street, one of the emirate’s key transport routes. According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), 70 % of the construction site is now complete, marking a decisive milestone in this major project.

An ambitious project worth 332 million AED

With a budget of 332 million dirhams, the project includes several major infrastructure projects, including a an 800-metre two-way tunnel comprising four lanes in each direction. This development is intended to significantly improve the flow of traffic on this busy route, which links Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.

As a result of this work, the journey time on this section will be reduced from 9.7 minutes down to just 3.8 minutes, enabling a significant time savings for motorists thereby relieving congestion on several of the city’s main roads.

More than a million residents directly affected

Residents of rapidly expanding neighbourhoods such as Al Barsha South, Dubai Hills and the surrounding areas will be among the first to benefit from this project. Over a million residents will find their daily lives made easier by smoother traffic flow and more efficient commutes.

As well as reducing traffic congestion, these improvements will have a positive impact on quality of life by reducing the stress of commuting, cutting fuel consumption and helping to to reduce CO₂ emissions from road traffic.

A project that forms part of Dubai’s strategic vision

The modernisation of Umm Suqeim Street is fully in line with the Dubai’s urban connectivity strategy, which places transport infrastructure at the heart of its sustainable development. This project is not limited to improving the flow of current traffic: it is also preparing the emirate to cope with the future population and economic growth, whilst creating a network capable of supporting the mobility technologies of the future, such as autonomous vehicles and intelligent transport systems.
