Mohamed Alabbar, the visionary behind Emaar Properties, one of the leading players in property development in the United Arab Emirates, recently announced an ambitious transformation for one of the most eagerly awaited architectural projects of the decade: the Dubai Creek Tower. Architecture enthusiasts and investors around the world are eagerly awaiting details of this redesign, as construction is set to begin in 2024.
Speaking eloquently and enthusiastically, Alabbar said during an exclusive interview with the WAM news agency: “Our dedicated team is working tirelessly to rethink and improve the tower’s original design. We are at a critical stage of planning, and if all goes well, we plan to start construction work by next year.”
The Dubai Creek Tower is not a recent project. In fact, the foundations of this iconic structure were laid in 2017. It was intended to be the centrepiece of the dynamic development of Dubai Creek Harbour. However, despite a promising start, the project has experienced a number of setbacks in recent years, giving rise to speculation and public curiosity.
Ideally situated within the harbour of Dubai Creek, and a short distance from the precious Ras Al Khor National Wildlife Sanctuary, the Dubai Creek Tower was conceived to be more than just a tower. Its original design echoed the splendour of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The plan was to equip the tower with a panoramic viewing platform, offering visitors breathtaking views of the metropolis of Dubai. In addition, an elegant terrace with a café would have allowed visitors to relax whilst admiring the scenery. The heart of the tower was also to house a lavish retail area, a modern museum space and an auditorium for various events.
Furthermore, with a planned height of no less than 1,300 metres, this observation tower would not only have pushed the boundaries of modern engineering but would also have surpassed the iconic Burj Khalifa, thereby setting a new record. The big question remains: will the new design retain this bold vision? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the eyes of the whole world will be on Dubai when the final details are revealed.
